Director – Conduct and Regulatory Law

Are you a seasoned legal leader with the "intellectual courage" to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and shape the strategic direction of a leading Australian institution?

Your new role

As the Director of Conduct and Regulatory Law, you will lead the Conduct and Regulatory team and serve as a vital member of the OGC Leadership group. You will act as a high-level strategic advisor to Senior Executives, providing practical and well-considered advice to support the institution's business objectives.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing a dedicated legal team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

  • Managing and resolving high-stakes people and conduct-related disputes across various courts and tribunals, such as the Fair Work Commission or NCAT.

  • Overseeing the university’s compliance framework and ensuring alignment with Higher Education regulatory standards.

  • Driving operational improvements and practice management strategies to optimize the legal function enterprise-wide.

  • Providing strategic oversight for commercial contracts and negotiations that support onshore and offshore education initiatives.

Your skills and experience

  • Admission: You must be admitted as an Australian legal practitioner.

  • Experience: You possess a minimum of 10 years experience, enabling you to provide expert legal services in a complex in-house environment.

  • Leadership: You have a proven ability to lead, mentor, and foster a collaborative work environment for legal practitioners.

  • Strategic Thinking: You possess the "solution-focused" mindset and intellectual courage required to exercise judgment on complex, university-wide matters.

  • Technical Breadth: You demonstrate deep knowledge across employment law, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, and corporate law.
